Fabrication Technician - 1st Shift (Furniture Assembly) - $20.19/hr
Highwood USA (Located in Tamaqua and Hazleton, PA) is a part of Premier Outdoor Living, an entrepreneurial manufacturer that produces products for the outdoor living space. POL consists of 3 unique business, Spa cabinets, HDPE Lumber, and Outdoor Furniture. We operate 3 facilities, 2 in Pennsylvania and 1 in Wisconsin that support the three business.
The Fabrication Technician (Furniture Assembly) position will be based in Hazleton, PA
Position Summary:
Successful Fabrication Technicians enjoy the challenges of working in a fast paced, team oriented environment while safely completing the processes associated with fabricating quality outdoor furniture pieces and/or spa panels beginning with raw material handling, and including pre-assembly, CNC, assembly, quality control, and finishing with packaging.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Prepare parts ensure correct materials in appropriate quantities are staged/supplied to the fabrication lines in both furniture and panel cells.
Ability to maneuver hand tools including but not limited to: screw driver, wrench, hammer, pliers utility knife, scraper, tape gun, glue gun.
Capable to operate power and air tools including but not limited to: drill/screw gun, staple gun, brad nailer, router, chop saw, drill press, and sprayer.
Adhere to priority schedule and adjust equipment to maintain adherence to customer specification, quality standards, and productivity standards in order to meet and exceed daily fabrication goals
Accurately and honestly fill out paperwork and log sheets
Pull lumber/spa profiles in accordance with fabrication schedule
Follow standard work processes and use/support LEAN concepts and tools such as KAN BAN, lean scheduling, 5S, Poke a Yoke, and visual daily metrics boards
Layup panels using adhesive gun and roller
Assemble furniture using the appropriate jigs and hand tools
Successfully complete frequent visual quality inspection at every work station of boards for scratches, voids, scuffs then buff or polish out all minor marks prior to packaging to insure furniture meets quality specifications
Complete spot checks on completed chair kits for easy assembly
Troubleshoot equipment and process issues
Complete and accurate documentation of production, scrap, run conditions, and other key data;track scrapped pieces for recut and inventory control.
Securely wrap, pad, strap, pack and palletize finished product for shipment
Print labels and disposition production in IQMS
Operate the various equipment that is Computer Numerical Controlled. This includes manual operation of the Computer Numerical Controlled, including basic commands and adjustments
Assist with troubleshooting the Computer Numerical Controlled equipment
Demonstrate the ability to learn to write basic code for the computer numerical controlled equipment and change cutting bits, calibrate, and troubleshoot CNC
Maintain the Computer Numerical Controlled machines, including development of PM’s and care, cleaning inspections on a routine daily, weekly or monthly upkeep schedule
Clean filters, change dust collection bags on air filtration system and keep work area swept and organized
Assist with order fulfillment of replacement parts
Contribute input on the design of new jigs
Participate in shift change meetings
Complete end of shift Behavioral Observation Survey (BOS) and Safety Awareness for Fellow Employees (SAFE) sheets as assigned
Participation in continuous improvement projects/teams
Forklift operation
Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED), three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Able to speak, read, write and comprehend in the English Language to perform the duties of this position.
Mathematical Skills
Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Possess the ability to accurately read a tape measure.
