Highwood USA (Located in Tamaqua and Hazelton, PA) is a part of Premier Outdoor Living, an entrepreneurial manufacturer that produces products for the outdoor living space. POL consists of 3 unique business, Spa cabinets, HDPE Lumber, and Outdoor Furniture.  We operate 3 facilities, 2 in Pennsylvania and 1 in Wisconsin that support the three business.

This position will be Remote/Hybrid and based in Hazleton, PA

 

Position Summary: 

We seek a passionate, curious, and driven designer with expertise in the furniture and home furnishings space. As our Senior Furniture Designer, you will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and creating unique and functional furniture pieces in the outdoor living segment. This role requires a blend of artistic vision, technical expertise, and an understanding of market trends and consumer needs. This position is remote, but the ideal candidate will reside within driving distance of Hazleton, PA.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

 

Essential Skills   

·         Develop innovative and creative furniture designs that meet market demands, our strategic needs and excel in both form and function.

·         Work closely with internal sales and marketing teams to understand market/consumer needs and to deliver compelling designs.

·         Work with internal engineering and operations teams to understand the unique cost drivers and limitations of the manufacturing process as it pertains to the design process.

·         Balance the tradeoffs between cost and design to help make prudent decisions and deliver the best result for the organization.

·         Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, while maintaining attention to detail, project quality and adherence to timelines.

·         Be knowledgeable of furniture industry trends in design and color, consumer preferences, pain points, and emerging technologies. Incorporate these trends and into design concepts.

Education and/or Experience                                                  

  • Bachelor’s degree in interior design, industrial design, or a  related field

·         5-7 years experience in furniture or home furnishings.

·         Experience in a manufacturing environment.

·         Strong artistic and creative abilities.

·         Proficiency in the appropriate design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar tools.

·         Excellent 2D and 3D sketching skills to rapidly communicate ideas

·         Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and industry trends.

·         Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

·         Attention to detail and the ability to work within cost/budgetary constraints.

Language Skills                                                   

Able to communicate and comprehend in the English Language to perform the duties of this position.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud and PPE is required. Appropriate hearing protection while in the plant is required as noise levels within the facility meet OSHA requirements for hearing protection equipment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Engineers typically work between an office environment and the production floor but the purpose of the project may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
